Supporting the
next generation of
emerging filmmakers
The Talent Fund has helped nurture promising creators from all regions of the country.
Since inception, the Talent Fund supported the careers of more than 400 emerging artists, and contributed to the development, production, and promotion of 180+ first features — films that have earned national and international awards, initiated long-lasting careers, and helped shape the face of Canadian film.
Building dreams
and igniting careers
By providing a means to involve private donors and sponsors to support the development of Canada’s creative talent, the Talent Fund has helped foster new, otherwise undiscovered talent, who now have the necessary resources to reach the top.
The program
Investing in the next generation
The Talent Fund supports the production of first feature films through Telefilm Canada’s Talent to Watch Program. The program focuses on creators from Indigenous and Official-Language minority communities, and has been especially successful in its support of women and other underrepresented voices, including Racialized Persons and LGBTQ2+ communities.
Permanent envelope
The Talent Fund also has a permanent and dedicated funding envelope for producers from OLMC (in either official language) and producers from diverse communities. The Talent Fund will ensure that at least 10% of its total contribution revenues, is allocated to this envelope and split evenly between OLMC producers and producers from diverse communities. This envelope will be allocated through Telefilm Canada’s financing programs, currently including the Talent to Watch Program.
