7th Canadian Screen Awards: Spotlight on films and rising stars

The Canadian Screen Awards was nothing short of rising stars this year! The ceremony gave a glimpse of the future of Canada’s new generation of storytellers in film and television.

The Talent Fund is extremely proud to have supported the following first feature films totaling eight nominations and two awards:

  • Firecrackers, directed by Jasmin Mozaffari, received four nominations and took home two awards for Achievement in Direction and Achievement in Editing.
  • Sashinka, directed by Kristina Wagenbauer, received three nominations for Best Actress, Best Editing and Best Original Song.
  • Les faux tatouages (Fake Tattoos), directed by Pascal Plante, received a nomination for Best Actress.

At the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival, past Talent Fund recipient Geneviève Dulude-De Celles’s Une colonie (A Colony) took home the Crystal Bear Award for Best Feature Film in the Generation Kplus competition. In addition, this film received seven nominations at the Canadian Screen Awards and won three awards for Actress – Leading Role, John Dunning Discovery Award (for Best First Feature) and the most prestigious industry recognition: Best Motion Picture!
