As the new Chair of the Advisory Committee, I look forward to continuing what Hartley T. Richardson, former Chair, has so passionately advocated and started since the inception of the Talent Fund. Supporting and championing the careers and talents of emerging artists – directors, writers and producers is such a worthy cause and I’m delighted and honoured to assume my new role. There has been a lot of momentum in the past few months!

Joining the Advisory Committee, we’re pleased to have Vincenzo Guzzo, President and CEO of Cinemas Guzzo. A successful entrepreneur and a principal of the popular Dragons’ Den program, Mr. Guzzo is also known for his philanthropy as founder of Guzzo Family Foundation, which supports cancer research and children’s mental health. As well, we’re excited that Kimberley Walker, has also joined The Talent Fund.  A writer and graphic designer based in Toronto and Los Angeles, Ms. Walker and  her husband, Consul General of Canada in L.A.,  hosted numerous meetings and events over the past 5 years, to support Canada’s social and political agenda in the field of visual and media arts. With the recent retirement of Jean-Claude Mahe, Telefilm has recruited Catherine Émond as the new Director of Governmental and Public Affairs and E.J. Alon, as the new Director of the Talent Fund, working alongside consultant Sheila O’Gorman and Telefilm veteran and advisor Ludovic Jaouen.

And finally, a warm welcome to the Talent Fund’s growing family of donors and partners – including CIBC who recently pledged a 5-year commitment to support emerging Indigenous filmmakers, and RBC Foundation who is continuing their support of emerging female filmmakers. Enjoy the first newsletter of the 2019/20 fiscal year – we are excited to keep you, our stakeholders, updated throughout the year.
